Research Details on the Individuals:
Finally managed to get a large part of the notes and records transcribed and ready to post. I know this list is still missing some of the documentation, I will add it as I am able.

Note - to save some room I have chosen to place the full census listing of the household only under the head of the house, the individuals in the house only have the information identifying where on the census the information was obtained and their personal information listed under their names.

Births, Marriages and Deaths in England were found using www.freebmd.com unless otherwise stated. Research on English records was primarily done on www.findmypast.com. Research for US records done primarily on www.ancestry.com.

WWI Draft card dated 5 Jun 1917

1910 US Federal Census Philadelphia Ward 40, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania says that Fred is the nephew of Cecil B Goodwin and Cecil's wife "Mabel C." In reality Mabel C was Fred's mother Mary Ann Simmons Newman Goodwin and Cecil was his step father. I am not sure when Cecil was told the truth that Mabel was really Fred and Eric's mother, not their aunt.

Phone conversation with Gladys 19 June 2008-
Gladys said that her dad used to work for a Mr Hecock as a scale worker. When the crash happened in 1929 Mr Hecock lost everything and is one of those who commited suicide by jumping out of a window, which is how her dad lost his job. Mr Hecock had a teenage son at the time. About 1934 Uncle Harry Sell (Aunt Lil's husband) came out to visit them from California and suggested they move out there too.

Gladys said her dad found out somehow that Mr Hecock's son was now grown and had a scale business in San Francisco, so her dad called Mr Hecock Jr and talked to him. Mr Hecock Jr remembered her dad from when he worked for his father and remembered what a good worker he was. I guess he was hired over the phone because he left for California and then a few months later Mom, Gladys, Fred Jr and Tom moved across country on a Grayhound bus.

Correspondence with Eric's daughter Betty:
He was sent to Canada to live with and work for a family when he was only 7-8 years old (about 1900). Must have been when they first came to America.
He came to Philadelphia area about 1917 and reunited with his Mother and brother. May had a sister named Maude who lived in the Oakland/Berkley Area (?Albany) and Lil lived somewhere in Calif. In late 1945 after WWII a brother Arthur Simmons came to visit from England. He died suddenly while visiting in Calif. He was a sports writer for a newspaper in London or some place in England. (per Marion)

Betty says "Aunt May's" name was Mabel. (Probably who Gladys was named for) . She says Eric was 9-10 when he was sent to Canada and he came to US in 1916 to Camden area to join the army. Betty was 13 when May and Cecil moved to California. She moved a lot in New Jersey before they came to Calif.
